Due to political, ideological, and cultural complexities, the origin of the Lemko people is difficult to definitively establish. This issue is presented differently by the Polish side (as the so-called Vlach theory),differently by the Ukrainian side (as the ruthenian concept (koncepcja ruska)and the Lemkos themselves present their ethnogenesis in yet another way.
The entire complex, bearing the name Historic Lemko Cottage (Zabytkowa Chyża Łemkowska ) in Olchowiec, includes the residential and farm building, the furnishing of the living quarters with household equipment, a collection of miniature wooden Orthodox churches (cerkiewki), an exhibition of traditional Lemko costumes, and an exhibition of agricultural equipment. An additional attraction is the original military artifacts remaining in these areas from the struggles of World War II.
In 1991, Olchowiec witnessed the return to the pre-war tradition of organizing the so-called Kermesz, or fairs honoring the patron saint of the Orthodox church. The Olchowiec church is dedicated to the Transfer of the Relics of Saint Nicholas from Myra in Lycia to Bari, and the Kermesz is celebrated on the nearest weekend following May 22nd. On Saturday, a service—the vechirnia—takes place around 4:00 PM.On Sunday, the celebration begins around 10:00 AM with Mass in the church, accompanied by a solemn procession.

Olchowiec is situated near the border with Slovakia, in the southern part of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within Krosno County. It is located 98 km from Rzeszów (the region's capital) and 35 km from Krosno (the county center). Geographically, Olchowiec lies in the valley of the Olchowczyk stream, bordering the Magura National Park and the Jaśliski Landscape Park.
